One Observatory Circle

The Vice President's Residence

During my time working at One Observatory Circle, I was immersed in a residence steeped in history and rich character. Built in 1893 and today occupying 9,150 square feet across 33 rooms, this Queen Anne–style mansion serves as both a secure venue for official diplomacy and a warm home for the Vice President’s family. Nestled on 12 acres of the Naval Observatory grounds, it boasts inviting features—from a turret and wraparound porch to a private pool, gazebo, and heritage garden. Each administration has contributed its own layer of personal and design stories, making the residence both functional and uniquely human.
